Tragedy Nearby on the Lake

Unfortunately, at this point, the day took a turn for the worse. While at the Monastery, I got a call from one of my co-workers, who knew that we were at Lake Ohrid. She had just heard on the news that a boat carrying tourists, sank on the lake. I assured her that we were fine, and we continued our walk around, still not realizing the extent of the tragedy that was taking place practically under our noses.

We got back in the car, and started the drive back to the town of Ohrid, about 30 km north of where we were. On the way, we passed a spot where there were police cars and ambulances, and many people staring out at the lake. We still didn’t think that this was very serious. After all, these tourist boats go back and forth on the lake all the time (we were even considering taking a ride on one later in the afternoon), it was a beautiful, sunny day, the lake was placid, and quiet, and nothing was far away from shore.
